Texas Conservative Lobby Update: Revenue Bonds for Campus Construction
Early in June, approximately 69 members of the House wrote to Governor Perry and requested that he add revenue bonds for campus construction to the top of his to-do list. That is almost half the members of the House of Representatives. Recent Legislation that would have moved things in this direction died in session. The project’s attached price tag of 2.7 billion dollars is perhaps a little hard for some to swallow. Those in favor are hoping to take advantage of the currently low interest rates on bonds. It is strongly supported by many Representatives because of the high projections of job growth, economic benefit, and growing business activity that come with the construction.
